Toyota surprised me once again, announcing they’ve raced with liquid nitrogen in the Fuji 24 Hour race, accomplishing what they claim is the first for any manufacturer. No one has raced with liquid hydrogen! The technology is awesome, as it allows for a lot more hydrogen storage versus gaseous hydrogen (stored at 700 bar). Here, the low pressure liquid must be kept at -253ºC, however, which is quite a challenge.

Mercedes CEO: “Our Tiny Axial Flux Motors Will Change The Entire Industry!’ In 1969, a couple of short months after humans first walked on the surface of the moon, Mercedes-Benz debuted a revolutionary new concept car at that year’s Frankfurt auto show. Called the C111, this orange-and-black coupe featured dramatic gullwing doors but also served as a testbed for new technology, including a four-rotor Wankel rotary engine. Now, 54 years later, it has drawn inspiration from that car for its newest concept, the Vision One-Eleven. It, too, is orange, and it also showcases new technology—in this case, very small and lightweight axial flux electric motors. So, what is this new axial flux motor? What makes it so special? And how is it different from the conventional radial one? Let’s find out! Axial flux motors have been around for some time and are commonly used in optical drives. However, they are not frequently used in cars. There are a few exceptions, like the unique Jeep Magneto and some high-performance hybrid supercars from brands like Acura, McLaren, and Ferrari. The Italian car manufacturer sources its axial flux motors from a British company called Yasa, which Mercedes acquired in 2021. Now it has developed this extraordinary motor that will soon be production ready. We will go into its details soon but first let’s understand…..what an axial flux motor is and how it is different from conventional ones.
